Universal Analytics to Google Analytics 4
If your business is currently using Universal Analytics to analyze data and report results you should switch to Google’s new platform, Google Analytics 4, as soon as possible!
On July 1st 2023 your Universal Analytics account will stop collecting data. Current data will still be available for 6 months, but the previous data will not be transferrable to Google Analytics 4. Ensure that the database on which cost-intensive marketing decisions are made every day remains available. Migrate in time to make sure that useful data will be available Google Analytics 4 by then. Migrate to GA4 now.
Google Analytics 4 vs. Universal Analytics
Google Analytics 4 comes with a whole new look. While the new platform is more approachable for Analytics beginners, recreating some previously readily available reports might need some adjustments.
Google Analytics 4 collects data differently than Universal Analytics does. The advantage? GA4 comes with less privacy concerns and combines app and web data at once. The disadvantage? A lot of common metrics such as session, bounce rate, unique pageviews, and total events are calculated differently or no longer available.
Due to the data collection processes, the data collected right now via Universal Analytics is not transferrable to GA4. Additionally, you will loose access to all Universal Analytics data at the end of 2023. The result? If you want historical data available to analyze and compare with new data come July, you should migrate now and simultaneously start collecting data via GA4 . You’ll also be able to adapt to new variables and methods of analysis.
The up-side? Those new variables and methods of analysis improve your customer journey tracking and user engagement analysis. Some of your well-known reports might be hard to recreate, but the new ones are visually enhanced, audiences for your ad campaigns are more powerful than ever and GA4 comes with the most intelligent user privacy and tracking features yet. The time to migrate is now!

Frequently Asked Questions
What happens after Universal Analytics is discontinued?
After Google “switches” off Universal Analytics you will still be able to access old data. However, no new data will be collected. You will also not be able to transfer your old data to Google Analytics 4.
What is the difference between Google Universal Analytics (UA) and Google Analytics 4 (GA4)?
There are quite a few differences between the old and the new Google Analytics platform.
Universal Analytics has a session-based data model and records hits such as Page Views and Transactions per session. It also only offers limited cross-device and cross-platform reporting, which means that data from a website and an App will stay seperate.
In contrast, Google Analytics 4 uses a flexible event-based data model, measuring only events. It offers full cross-decive and cross-platform reporting through data streams. Due to these differences you will find new metrics and reports in your new GA4 set-up.
Which of your Google Analytics 4 services are right for me and my business?
